TANZANIA & UGANDA SIGN GAS PIPELINE DEAL
On Thursday November 9, 2023, Tanzania and Uganda signed a bilateral agreement to construct a natural gas pipe line from Tanzania to Uganda that will boost energy security and economic growth in both countries. The agreement was signed on behalf of Tanzania by Deputy Prime Minister Dr.Dotto Biteko and Uganda by Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa
MINISTRY OF MINERALS & STAKEHOLDERS DISCUSSED ECOLOGY IN MINING AREAS
On 8th November, 2023 Kheri Mahimbali, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, led discussions among Mining institutions and investors to address ecological challenges in mining areas. The joint session in Dar es Salaam aimed at fostering a common understanding of each sector’s role in enforcing mining regulations. Mahimbali emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for investors, ensuring lawful extraction to boost GDP and benefit the people. He urged experts responsible for issuing mining permits to expedite the process. The session highlighted the significance of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for all projects, including mining, to safeguard the local environment. GST TO BEGIN GEOLOGICAL SURVEY IN ZANZIBAR
The Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) team of experts intends to conduct geological and geophysical surveys in the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba with aim of developing a geophysical map of the relevant areas. On November 21, 2023 GST declared those intentions when its team of experts visited the Ministry of Energy, Water and Mines in Zanzibar.
All researches will be hand in hand with geoscience maps development covering Zanzibar and Pemba islands.
GST expert and Geology Section Manager Maswi Solomon speaking on behalf of the GST Chief Executive has explained the importance of geoscience mapping in Zanzibar that did not exist.
MINISTRY OF MINERALS ATTENDED A UKTANZANIA BUSINESS FORUM
A team of experts from the Ministry of Minerals led by Permanent Secretary Kheri Mahimbali participated in the Special Business Forum between Tanzania and England. The UK –Tanzania business forum in London, United Kingdom was organized by The British Commission, in collaboration with Clyde & Co from 20th -23rd November 2023.
Ministry held a meeting with the Institute of Geology in England which will help to strengthen relations and new areas of cooperation with the Institute of Geology and Mineral Research Tanzania (GST).
In addition to that the ministry met British companies who are interested in investing in Tanzania, both businessmen and those interested in investing in the mineral value chain.
441 LICENSES AUCTIONED FOR STRATEGIC MINERAL EXPLORATION
November 21, 2023, the Assistant Commissioner of Minerals from the Ministry of Minerals, Eng. Ally Samaje, during his presentation on the first day of the Business Forum between the UK and Tanzania he explained to the attendees the present critical & strategic minerals in Tanzania, and the opportunities available for investment in these minerals as well as the Government’s strategies in attracting investments.
He added that, the Ministry of Minerals has auctioned about 441 licenses for the exploration of strategic minerals and 46 licenses for the mining of these minerals, giving opportunities for investors to enter into joint ventures with owners of those licenses and develop them hence establishment mines.
